Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) chick
nil
The Powerful Owl is a hollow dependent species that utilise hollow bearing trees for breeding. This threatened species also relies on hollow utilising arboreal (tree dwelling) marsupials for prey, predominantly the Ringtail Possum and the Greater Glider, two species that I study as part of my PhD. My PhD considers the effect of disturbance regimes on hollow abundance and subsequently hollow dependent fauna diversity and abundance. Powerful Owl Nest sites are difficult to find (less than 100 are known) and as such photos of chicks are equally as rare.
