"Nifold Plains, Lakefield National Park, Cape York Penninsula, Queensland"

The coastal savanna grasslands of far North Queensland are home to significant numbers of the endangered subspecies of Star Finch, Neochmia ruficauda clarescens. These highly productive grasslands support a great diversity of perennial and annual grasses that granivores such as the Star Finch rely on for food and nesting sites. With careful fire management and protection from overgrazing by livestock or feral herbivores, this beautiful landscape will continue to support rare native fauna.
