"Bright colours from South Africa"
Kris French, Asociate Professor
Bitou bush is a weed of national significance, dominating most of the NSW beach dunes along the coast. Introduced from South Africa, the plant is attractive, however it causes significant losses to biodiversity. Research by Kris French has been contributing to understanding the impacts of bitou bush and together with managers she has been developing best management protocols to manage these infestations, prevent loss of coastal biodiversity and facilitate restoration of coastal dunes. In the future it is hoped this is not the only flower seen on our beaches.
