Gouldian Finch (Erythura gouldiae) Yellow-faced morph male
(Flight Section)
Granivorous birds, including the Gouldian Finch, are facing widespread declines due to the effects of grazing and changed fire patterns in Australia’s tropical savannas. These spectacular birds need a variety of savanna habitat types, often flying over 15 kilometres a day to reach feeding, nesting and drinking sites. We are studying the effect of different types of land management on the health of several species of finches found throughout the Northern savanna in order to provide recommendations for the conservation management of vital habitat.
