"Anemone Flower"
Craig Sherman, Post Doctoral Fellow
Looking like a flower this sea anemone belongs to a group of clones inhabiting a rock pool. Different clones show aggressive behaviour when they come into contact with each other and will often fight using specialised stinging tentacles. Often these fights are so server that it results in the death of one of the anemones. Research work carried out by David Ayre and I have shown that different clones are locally adapted to different habitats on the rock shore.
