Facing Extinction?
Thomas Madsen, Senior Honary Fellow

The meadow viper (Vipera ursinii) has a highly fragmented distribution in Europe. Isolated populations are often at risk from becoming subjected to detrimental effects of reduced population genetic diversity such as inbreeding depression. In collaboration with scientists from France, Italy, Serbia and Greece we are therefore investigating the population genetics of this beautiful little snake.
