File snakes (Acrochordus arafurae) have formed a mutualist partnership with estuarine corcadiles in the Djukbinj National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia. The snakes have evolved certain behaviours that make them an irresistible study species for certain types of unsuspecting biologists. In the presence of suitable academics, the snakes will congregate at particular distances from the shore, luring the academics to attempt to set traps for them in these spots. Here we see a classic example of an academic attempting to erect such a trap, oblivious to the approach of the voracious corcadile. While the corcadile receives a nutritious meal from the relationship, the file snake’s only reward seems to be the smug satisfaction of luring another homo nothoerectus to its doom.
