When I catch lizards I take a series of measurements and blood and DNA samples. I also scan them on a flatbed scanner so that we can analyse certain features retrospectively after the lizards have been released. This ventral scan is to measure bib symmetry (the area under the chin), which is sometimes a bright yellow colour. Anyway, I cover them with a dark cloth for contrast and hold them down carefully with my hands to stop them moving and you can see the sinister looking shape of my hands through the cloth. I didn't notice the position this guy was in at the time and I think he looks very graceful.
