Blowflies are a fascinating group of insects that are the focus of an intensive research effort in the ICB. They have both pure and applied importance in ecology and forensic science. Like many other insects, blowflies possess a pair of so-called 'compound' eyes, which permit sight within nearly 360 degrees of visual space. Eye structure is important in assigning a specific identity to adult blowflies; current studies are directed at refining the tools for accurate blowfly identification.
